SimpliPHI Hybrid Inverter Receives UL 1741-SB Certification

SimpliPHI Hybrid Inverter Receives UL 1741-SB Certification

UL 1741 specifies a series of safety tests and performance requirements that inverters must meet to ensure their safe and reliable use in renewable energy systems. Testing covers a range of factors including electrical and mechanical safety, performance and efficiency, and protection from environmental hazards such as fire, shock and electromagnetic interference.
Last week, Briggs & Stratton Energy Solutions announced that the SimpliPHI 6kW hybrid inverter received UL 1741-SB certification. This means the residential inverter has passed IEEE 1547.1-2020 testing and meets the new California Public Utilities Commission Rule 21.3 requirements for interconnection, protection, and support.
“As solar and battery adoption continues to grow, our smart inverters provide another layer of security and stability to grid operators across the country,” said Sequoyah Cross, vice president of energy storage at Briggs & Stratton Energy Solutions. Designed and manufactured LFP batteries are proven to operate at lower temperatures for longer periods of time, providing homeowners and businesses with increased levels of energy storage.”
Additionally, the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) recently recognized Briggs & Stratton Energy Solutions as an approved manufacturer in California. The company is one of five manufacturers to receive this award, benefiting Californians by allowing the California Self-Production Incentive Program (SGIP) to provide an additional 20% incentive.
Inverter Specifications | The SimpliPHI 6kW inverter provides fast shutdown, arc fault protection, PV reverse polarity protection, earth fault monitoring, residual current monitoring, insulation resistance detection, overcurrent protection and short circuit protection. It scales up to 6 inverters or a total capacity of 30 kWh, has a built-in MPPT charge controller, has two inputs with two strings each, and is IP65 rated.
With 115 years of power generation experience, Briggs & Stratton Energy Solutions meets today’s changing energy needs with a full range of primary and backup energy products, including energy storage systems (ESS) and backup generators.
The company’s cobalt-free LFP batteries, designed and manufactured in Oxnard, California, have been installed worldwide since 2010 and are backed by a 10- or 15-year limited warranty1. The SimpliPHI 4.9 kWh2 battery is fire tested to UL 1642, UL 1973, UN 3480, UL 9540A and UN DOT 38.3 certified. It is certified for installation in UL 9540 systems.
In 2022, SimpliPHI was one of three ESSs to receive a Certificate of Approval (COA) from the Fire Department of New York (FDNY). The COA is important because New York City has some of the strictest fire codes in the world for energy storage systems. Because SimpliPHI batteries generate very little heat and have a low risk of temperature runaway, no additional fire suppression, cooling or ventilation systems are required other than those recommended in the installation instructions and local codes.
