The ABB ACH580 frequency converter supports heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems under extreme conditions.

The ABB ACH580 frequency converter supports heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems under extreme conditions.

Introducing the ACH580 4X variable speed drive (VFD), a new addition to ABB’s fully compatible drive portfolio designed for outdoor installations and extreme environments in the HVACR industry. UL Type 4X certification (NEMA 4X and IP66 ratings) provides protection against rain, cold, snow, salt spray and dust, as well as corrosion from harsh chemicals, gases and damage from external ice formation and high moisture concentrations. Humidity or UV radiation.
The ACH580 4X variable speed drive is specifically designed for HVAC applications and features features such as quick start to control rotating motors smoothly. It also features multi-pump control to improve system efficiency, freeze response, resonance monitoring and fire lockout capabilities. There is also a built-in circuit breaker to simplify installation and eliminate the need for branch circuit fuses, as well as a sun shield to help maintain optimal performance when exposed to direct sunlight.
Mario Lemarroy, product marketing manager at ABB, said: “All HVAC customers require rugged and reliable equipment, but in some cases the drives need to be installed outside close to the application and are subject to extreme operating conditions.” “Our ACH580 4X drives operate in extreme conditions. are also equipped with HVACR-specific software features, making them easy to commission and use.”
The ACH580 4X is equipped with dedicated HVACR software functions for ease of commissioning and use. It features a standard Bluetooth control panel for seamless and secure connection, commissioning and monitoring using ABB applications such as Drivetune and Drive Composer. Bluetooth panels not only improve convenience, but also improve safety by keeping workers away from the confines of an arc flash.
        The ACH580 4X driver, introduced at the 2017 AHR show, provides power from 1 to 30 hp. in a variety of power ratings including 1-phase 240V, 3-phase 208-240V, 3-phase 380-480V and 3-phase 500-600V. Takes place January 22–24, 2024 in Chicago, opening February 1, 2024.
