Power Integrations Releases New SCALE-iFlex LT NTC IGBT/SiC Gate Driver with Temperature Sensing

SCALE-2 technology increases current distribution by 20% in the popular new 100 x 140 mm IGBT and SiC dual power modules.
NUREMBERG, Germany, May 9, 2023–(BUSINESS WIRE)-PCIM 2023-Power Integrations (Nasdaq: POWI), a leader in gate driver technology for medium and high voltage inverters, today introduced SCALE-iFlex™ LT NTC Gate Driver Modules IGBT/SiC series. The new gate drivers are designed for the new popular IGBT modules with two sizes of 100 x 140 mm, such as the Mitsubishi LV100 and Infineon XHP 2, as well as silicon carbide (SiC) options with blocking voltages up to 2300 V. SCALE-iFlex LT NTC drivers provide Negative Temperature Coefficient (NTC) data (isolated temperature measurement of power modules), providing precise temperature control of converter systems. This is especially important for systems with multiple modules connected in parallel, ensuring proper current distribution and significantly increasing overall system reliability.

Thorsten Schmidt, Product Marketing Manager at Power Integrations, commented: “Renewable energy and rail system designers using SCALE-iFlex drives are already benefiting from increased system performance; the SCALE-iFlex approach handles parallelization so effectively that it can be eliminated by one-fifth. modules using SCALE-iFlex. Loss of performance or derating. The addition of an isolated NTC output reduces hardware complexity (especially cables and connectors) and helps improve system observability and overall performance.”
SCALE-iFlex LT gate drivers are based on Power Integrations’ proven SCALE™-2 technology, which improves current sharing accuracy, thereby increasing the current carrying capacity of multiple parallel modules by 20%, allowing users to significantly increase the number of semiconductors in the converter. stack. This is possible because local control of each 2SMLT0220D MAG (Adaptive Gate Driver Module) unit ensures precise control and switching, resulting in superior current sharing. Advanced Active Clamping (AAC) is used to provide precise overvoltage protection.
For further space savings, up to four MAG drive power modules can be connected to one 2SILT1200T isolated main control unit (IMC). Thanks to its compact form factor, this unit can also be mounted on a power module. The gate drivers are fully compliant with IEC 61000-4-x (EMI), IEC-60068-2-x (Environmental) and IEC-60068-2-x (Mechanical) specifications and are fully type tested – Low Voltage, High Voltage, Thermal cycle – reduces designers’ development time by 12–18 months. Includes a full range of protective features and the ability to manufacture parts with conformal coating.
