Parts 1 and 2 of Australian and New Zealand Standard 4777 have just been opened for public comment following a recent revision process. For those unfamiliar with it, it outlines the requirements for grid-connected inverters. This is a really big deal for the solar industry and will be a key element in bringing connected vehicles to Australia.
The latest versions have taken into account the views of a number of organizations whose specific views are to ensure that vehicle inverters are supported and installed throughout Australia.
This is a new, complex and rapidly changing field. The team working on this work are some of the best experts in this field in the country…. As a global leader in the deployment of rooftop solar, Australia’s standards experts for small grid-tied inverters are the best in the world.
However, we are all human. Key details that could better facilitate V2G adoption in Australia may have been missed during the development process.
Catching such things before the standard is finalized and released is the purpose of the public comment phase. At this point in the process, we shine a light with the goal of attracting constructive and thoughtful input to make us the “better” and “best” we can be.
If your business is likely to be involved in V2G products, solutions or installations in Australia over the next 3-5 years, we strongly recommend that your technical team (local or overseas) consider this public consultation draft.
If you would like to see specific changes to enable your organization to better deliver V2G in Australia, please contribute to the Australian Standards development process.
Once the standard is published, CEC will update the inverter category documentation accordingly. Documentation for the current inverter category can be found here.
